We are thrilled to announce that after months of closure due to an unfortunate fire incident, Broosters Chicken of Lombard is finally reopening its doors. It has been a challenging journey since the Labor Day incident, but we are grateful for your support and patience throughout this time. We are thrilled to welcome you back and serve you the delicious food you've come to love.
The fire brought about not only physical damage to our establishment but also a deep heartache for all of us involved. It was disheartening to witness the place that brought joy and comfort to many go up in flames. However, it is the resilience and determination of our team that has allowed us to overcome this adversity and emerge stronger than ever.
We have worked tirelessly to rebuild and restore our restaurant to its former glory. The renovations and repairs are now complete, ensuring a safe and inviting space for you to enjoy your meals.
As we reopen, we want to express our sincere gratitude to our loyal customers. Your unwavering support and messages of encouragement have been a source of inspiration for us during these difficult times. Your kind words and understanding have truly touched our hearts and reminded us why we are in this business—to bring people together through the joy of food.

A special note from Ron Johnson, owner of Broosters Chicken of Lombard:

Last Monday, Labor Day, our labors ended….at least for now.

Early Tuesday morning, Broosters Chicken of Lombard suffered a fire at approximately 1:15 a.m., which caused extensive damage to the interior of the restaurant. Fortunately, no one was in the building, and no one was hurt. Thus far we have been told it could take up to 6 months to rebuild and reopen. We are in the early stages of assessing the damage and hope that this time frame can be shortened.

Broosters is Chicagoland’s Original Fire Grilled Chicken. In the 1980’s, my father, Gary Johnson, visited Mexico and noticed people cooking chicken over open grills, and was captivated by the smell and flavors. He knew he had found something special and wanted to bring that idea home. It took him years to perfect the secret marinade, made fresh with the highest quality of ingredients available, and create a concept that had never been tried before locally. In February 15, 1997, over 25 years ago, Broosters Chicken of Lombard, opened its doors and fired up its grills at 434 22nd St, at the corner of Finley Rd. and Old 22nd Street.

Broosters is truly a family business. After my father’s retirement, I took over in 2003. In the past 25 years I have had my friends, brothers and now my sons work at Broosters. I think even my mother and grandmother might have wiped down a table or two. I also want to mention my great employees, some who have been working here for over 15 years. Although we are completely devastated, we will rebuild, and we will all be together again working the grill.

I want to take a moment to give special thanks to the Lombard Fire and Police Departments, who if not for their quick response, the damage could have been so much more catastrophic.

The entire Johnson family would like to take the time to thank each and every customer who has walked through the door all for their loyalty and patronage. We have been a witness to the lives of our regular customers, celebrating births and graduations, and first dates that turned into marriage. My hope and prayer is that the making of new memories will begin soon.

It’s rough right now!

Here’s a peek into the restaurant industry:

Beef prices are up 47%
Chicken prices are up a minimum of 40% for breast and over 100% for wings
Shrimp just went up 25% today and is probably just starting “the climb”
Pork is up 51%
Fish is up 30% with limited availability
Credit Card usage and associated fees are up
Cash is down
Paper products are up 20% and limited in earth friendly stock
Delivery fees are up because fuel is up and orders are not always filled because drivers are limited
Staffing is at an all time low and wages are up

Be kind to your small businesses.
Show grace and give constructive feedback (one star reviews and Facebook rants are not constructive feedback).

Stop saying “if they paid more” about small businesses. Small business owners take incredible financial risks, sacrifice so much of their family time, give so much back, have unpredictable pricing, equipment failures, are impacted by weather, high insurance costs - the list goes on.

In compliance with Governor Pritzker’s declaration, Broosters of Lombard will close its doors to DINE-IN customers starting Tuesday March 17, 2020, until at least the end of the month for the first time in over 30 years. This however, does not mean we are not cooking up all the fired grilled chicken, steaks and chops you all love and crave. We are offering Curbside Pick-Up and will now be offering home Delivery.

This is an uncertain and scary time for all of us, but with solidarity and camaraderie as a community we will get through this and come through stronger. As a small business, we are the first ones to feel the economic pain.
