We're excited to welcome Lil' Ed Williams back to Hackney's on Harms Patio for a special performance on Wednesday, June 3rd. A true Chicago blues legend, Lil' Ed is known for his incredible slide guitar, nonstop energy, and keeping classic Chicago blues alive.
If you've seen him before, you already know it's always a fun night.

National Hamburger Day calls for burgers done right. For one day only, we’re extending our Smash Burger Lunch Special all day long at Hackney’s. Choose from our Pub Smash, Hot Honey Smash, or Mushroom Smash, all served with fries and Aunt Bebe’s coleslaw.
The only hard part is deciding which one to order.

In 1930, armed, masked robbers stormed into the Lake Avenue Tavern. During the robbery, a customer stopping in on his way to visit his wife at Evanston Hospital was tragically shot and killed. The robbers forced Frank Engels to open the safe before escaping with just $125. The murderer was never identified, though some locals have long believed the gunman may have been Baby Face Nelson — one of the most notorious gangsters of the 1930s. Known for his violent bank robberies and ties to infamous criminals like John Dillinger and Al Capone, Nelson became one of the FBI’s most wanted men during the Depression era.

It was Engel’s Steak House. And before that—what’s now Macushla Brewery—was Lake Ave. Tavern, owned and run by Frank Engels Sr.
Different names, different times, but it’s always been a spot where people come to hang out, eat, and catch up.
Same family the whole way through… just keeping it going on Lake.

Tonight, something special happened at the Circle Bar.
People paused their conversations, pulled up a stool, and gathered shoulder to shoulder—eyes on the screen—as astronauts made their way back from the moon. For a few minutes, everything else faded out.
Strangers became friends, cheers broke out, and we all shared in a moment bigger than any one of us.
History doesn’t always feel this close… but tonight, it did. 🌙

For public transportation, take the train to Glenview Station on the Union Pacific North line. From there, walk east on Grove St and turn left at Lake Ave. The restaurant will be on your left.
For driving and parking, take the Waukegan Rd exit from Highway 94 and head south towards Glenview. Turn right onto Lake Ave and continue until you reach the restaurant which will be on your right. There is a parking lot available for customers just next to the restaurant.
