More than 15 years ago, Bruno Abate founded the Recipe for Change program to create real opportunities for transformation. Recipe for Change provides culinary training, job readiness skills, fine arts enrichment, and mentorship to detainees at Cook County Jail.
Our mission is to empower individuals with the skills, confidence, and support they need to secure employment after reentry — helping reduce recidivism and build stronger communities.

Many of you have heard about Bruno’s program at the Cook County Jail — a program dedicated to giving individuals a true second chance. Through cooking classes, art, and music, it provides education, purpose, and hope to those preparing for a new chapter in life.
After years of dedication, his dream is now a reality: a Pizza & Panini Truck built with a powerful mission. This project is about more than great food — it’s about opportunity and second chances.
It helps individuals rebuild their lives after incarceration, giving them the support, dignity, and real opportunities they need to start again.
