Back in 2014 when I opened this place, one of the things I decided to do was approach the head coaches at Wheaton North and Wheaton-Warrenville South and offer up a whole hog roast for the team that won Wheaton’s “Cross-Town Classic” football game. For several reasons, we couldn’t get it organized that 1st year and it didn’t happen.
Fast forward to 2026 and today will be the 10th time that we will be serving a whole hog to the winning team from those contests. Didn’t happen in 2014 and it didn’t happen again during the cancelled COVID season, but it has been a blast each of the other seasons!
This year, the hog is headed to the players and coaches of the Wheaton-Warrenville South Tigers for their win this year over the North Falcons. It’s been amazing to have some involvement with these schools, the programs and the individuals that administer and participate in them. In house, we call this the “Hog Bowl” but I think Wheaton locals that follow the high school sports scene know what it means to these kids to win the “Cross-Town Classic”.
My stats may not be entirely accurate, and I am open to corrections, but without going to official sources, my tale of the tape from the time we started this is and there is definitely more:
• Wheaton South 6 cross town wins
• 2 Conference Champions
• 2 NFL players
• Wheaton North 4 cross town wins
• 2 Conference Champions
• 1 State Champion
• 1 NFL player
• Steamboat BBQ
• 4 Downtown Wheaton Association Chili Championships
• 3rd Place Whole Hog at Memphis in May World Championship
• 1st Place Hog at Praise the Lard Competition
• 0 NFL Players (although we did have Anthony Adams raid our smoker one night after a local dodgeball event at Franklin Middle School!)
So as these teams wind down their 2026 regular seasons and begin preparing for the playoffs (which it appears both teams have qualified for) my staff and I say:
“Let’s Go!”
