Beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026, a mandatory 20% service fee will be included on all checks at Community. This service charge is added to pay employees a fair living wage and benefits. A service charge model helps us provide a consistent income for all members of our team in a way that the old tip system did not. We’ve decided to keep a gratuity line on our checks because some guests may want to leave a little something extra. That’s mighty kind, though not at all expected. We assure you that any additional gratuity goes to your service team for that night. The cost of dining at Community will remain relatively the same, but we are reworking the nuts and bolts to create a more equitable and sustainable system for all employees, not just some. We have included a detailed explanation of why we have made this switch on our website. We are grateful for the support of all our guests, families, friends and past and present team members that continue to shape what Community is. We will continue to evolve as needed in hopes to continue to serve you all for many years to come.

What people say
New American restaurants are known for their innovative and diverse menus that incorporate various cuisines and flavors. Community Tavern, located on N Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, is a prime example of a modern American restaurant that offers an exceptional dining experience.
One of the standout features of Community Tavern is their commitment to supporting local communities. In honor of Pride Month, they have created a special cocktail called 'That Gay Drink' and will be donating $4 from every purchase to a black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ center in Chicago. Additionally, they have collaborated with friends to create limited edition t-shirts with all proceeds going towards the same cause.
But it's not just their social responsibility that makes Community Tavern great. Their menu is constantly evolving with exciting specials like Ramp Kimchi Dumplings and Glazed Duck Leg. The fusion of Asian flavors with traditional American dishes creates a unique culinary experience that keeps customers coming back for more.
Overall, Community Tavern is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a delicious meal while also supporting local communities. With their innovative menu and commitment to social responsibility, it's no wonder why this New American restaurant has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
