A message from our owner, Jeff Wang:

It's been quite the month trying to get everything sorted out from our kitchen fire. But, at last, I have a clearer picture.

I’ve decided to close MAK.

I struggled with this decision because it felt like failure. However, this has not been a failure. Not in the slightest bit. These have been some of the best years of my life and I am grateful for this opportunity to serve the community that I love. I have met so many amazing people that will be a part of my life forever, and have learned so many things that have made me a better person. If anything, I see this as the end of one chapter and beginning of the next.

No business is meant to last forever, and we've defied the odds by being open for 11+ years. That wouldn’t have been possible without YOU! Thank you to the entire Wicker Park community for welcoming us in 2013 and supporting us through the years!

What people say

Asian fusion restaurants are known for their unique blend of flavors and ingredients that create a culinary experience like no other. MAK Restaurant on W Division Street in Chicago is a prime example of this, offering an exceptional Asian fusion dining experience that will leave you craving more.

MAK Restaurant's owner, Tommy Wang, grew up eating his parents' cooking at their family restaurant, Tien Tsin. He fell in love with the dynamic flavors of his father's cooking and used that as a standard for all food his entire life. When the restaurant closed in 1998, Tommy and other loyal fans suffered a huge void of quality Chinese food. By many accounts, it was simply the best Chinese food they had ever had.

Tommy heard countless expressions of the difficulty in finding good Chinese food, and more specifically, an inability to find Chinese food as good as his parents used to make. Already an entrepreneur, Tommy long had the idea of taking his father's talents and refining them to a more modern palette. His own cravings for good Chinese could only be satisfied through home-cooked meals at his parent's house.

MAK Restaurant brings these flavorful recipes that have been handed down from generations to Wicker Park. Each dish has been diligently refined to include local, sustainable ingredients that maximize flavor and showcase the ingredients with an Asian flair. The menu offers a wide range of dishes from sushi rolls to noodle bowls and everything in between.

The ambiance at MAK Restaurant is warm and inviting with friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the menu offerings. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the restaurant from the decor to the presentation of each dish.

Overall, MAK Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for an exceptional Asian fusion dining experience in Chicago. With its flavorful dishes made with local ingredients and warm ambiance, it's no wonder why this restaurant has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
