What people say
Portillo's is a beloved fast food destination that has captured the hearts and taste buds of many with its iconic Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, juicy burgers, fresh salads, and decadent chocolate cake. The journey of Portillo's began in 1963 when founder Dick Portillo opened the first hot dog stand known as "The Dog House." With just $1,100 and a determination to succeed, he transformed a humble trailer into a thriving business.
As the years went by, Portillo's continued to innovate and expand. In 1983, they introduced their first drive-thru in Downers Grove, quickly becoming renowned for their speedy service without compromising on quality. The introduction of Barnelli's Pasta Bowl in 1993 showcased their commitment to variety, offering gourmet pasta dishes alongside their classic menu items.
In 1994, Portillo's made its mark in Chicago at Clark and Ontario Streets, where fans could finally enjoy their favorite dishes in the heart of the city. This location even features memorabilia from the original Chicago Stadium, adding a unique touch to the dining experience.
With an eye toward convenience and accessibility, Portillo's launched Home Kitchen Catering in 1999 and began shipping food nationwide in 2000. This expansion allowed fans across all 50 states to savor the flavors of Portillo's from the comfort of their own homes.
Whether you're indulging in a classic hot dog or treating yourself to a slice of rich chocolate cake, every visit to Portillo's promises delicious food served with genuine hospitality. It's no wonder that this establishment has become synonymous with Chicago cuisine and continues to be a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
