Portillo's

Portillo's Portillo's is a fast food restaurant celebrated for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, burgers, salads, and chocolate cake. The establishment began in 1963 when Dick Portillo opened the first location, known as "The Dog House," in Villa Park, Illinois. With just $1,100 and a small trailer lacking basic amenities, Portillo's quickly gained popularity and was renamed in 1967 as it moved to a larger building. By 1983, the introduction of a drive-thru set a new standard for quick service at Portillo's locations. The following years saw further innovations with the launch of Barnelli's Pasta Bowl in 1993, which expanded their menu offerings to include pasta dishes and gourmet salads. A significant milestone occurred in 1994 when the first Chicago location opened at Clark and Ontario Streets, showcasing memorabilia from the original Chicago Stadium. In 1999, Portillo’s Home Kitchen Catering commenced operations, followed by food shipping services across all 50 states beginning in 2000.
