We extend our deepest and sincerest condolences to the Ikonomopoulos family in the passing of Sam Ikonomopoulos. He was not only family, but a dear friend to many. His passion for work, his leadership, and his decades of commitment to Petey’s II exemplified his strong work ethic and character. Sam enjoyed working side by side with his brother, Mihalis (Mike), and his sister, Mary, who navigated the launch of Petey’s II and overlooked both restaurants. The three of them worked closely together to pave the path for Petey’s II successful history and its legacy. Sam inspired and instilled his work ethic to many, yet as a devoted husband and proud father always made time for his family who truly meant the world to him. We will cherish the fond memories as his spirit lives on. May his memory be eternal. 🕊️

To our valued patrons and friends, farewell. It is with a mix of gratitude and nostalgia we announce the closing of Petey's II Restaurant, a cherished landmark in the Orland Park community. To those who have been loyal and supportive, our family sincerely thanks you for being a part of our journey, our story, our history, our fond memories.

Founded in 1969 by Petey and Mary Kattos, Petey's II has been more than just a restaurant; it has been a gathering place for families and friends, a site for celebrations, and a testament to the enduring spirit of Orland Park's culinary scene. Our family’s journey began with a simple vision to offer a unique dining experience combining classic flavors with a warm, inviting atmosphere. Through the years, we have had the privilege of witnessing generations of families come together at our tables to celebrate special occasions, milestones, holidays, nights out and family dining traditions.

As one of the few businesses around dating back to the late 1960s, the heartfelt decision to depart Orland Park was not taken lightly. For years, we felt at home in our community, but things changed. The decision to close our doors comes in the wake of significant changes within the restaurant industry and a step closer to Petey’s well-deserved retirement.

We witnessed the growth of our community and surrounding areas, and successfully navigated through changing times, challenges, a pandemic, all while staying true to our core values. We reached many milestones and survived countless adversities along the way. For our restaurant to thrive and survive for 55 years is one of our family's proudest accomplishments. We have proven a local, family-owned independent restaurant and small business can flourish and withstand the test of time. We have achieved a place in Orland Park’s history.

For Petey’s II Restaurant & Lounge, this is an end of an era. It has been an honor being a pioneer in Orland Park and Chicago Southland’s hidden gem. As we bid adieu to Orland Park, we invite you to relive and cherish the memories which made Petey’s II a beloved establishment for over five decades.

Our original location Petey’s Bungalow in Oak Lawn is open for business and will honor Petey’s II gift certificates.

As January marks the anniversary of Petey’s II, we would like to take a moment for our story.

Generations of family dining.
Over five decades.
Authentic.
Tradition.

Born and raised in a small town in western Greece, Mary set out on a journey overseas to America at a young age in her 20s with her aunt to make a better life for herself and her family in Greece. Fast forward, Petey and Mary launched the Petey’s restaurants. While Petey focused primarily on the Bungalow, it was Mary’s commitment and tenacity that were instrumental in the success of both restaurants. Mary exemplified passion and determination to succeed, working long hours for both restaurants in addition to her other commitments and ventures. For over five decades, Mary’s leadership and management were like no other and paved the successful long history of both restaurants. Her strength and willpower endured even during difficult and challenging times. She was a pioneer of her time for women; the anchor of the Petey’s legacy. An accomplished entrepreneur, she inspired and mentored those around her. Mary’s work ethic was second to none, and an inspiration to many she mentored, those who respected and worked with her, and those who knew her well.

We thank our past and current management team for their dedication throughout our journey. Sam, Dino, Debbie, Nick, Melina, Danny, Luis, and John committed countless number of hours and helped the business prosper and grow. Additionally, we sincerely thank our chef team who have been with us from the early days for their commitment, dedication, and their contribution.

To our loyal customers, thank you for making Petey's II a dining tradition for you, your families, and friends and for supporting our local, family owned business.

As another year nears a close, it’s time to take a moment to reflect. A moment to celebrate those we have welcomed into our lives. A moment to remember and honor the loved ones we lost. A moment to cherish the wonderful memories of the year. A moment to realize our strength. A moment to recognize our will in overcoming and navigating the challenges. A moment to recognize that in today’s society kindness matters as does mindfulness. A moment to acknowledge that positives will always prevail over any negatives. A moment to take time to unplug and live in the moment. A moment to appreciate the simple things in life. Lastly, a moment for endless gratitude for the cherished moments and the unconditional support.

With heartfelt thanks to those who have chosen Petey’s II for a special occasion, a holiday, a night out, or a carryout. Your continued unwavering support for our small business has been a contribution to our long history and has gifted us with treasured memories through the years. As we close out the year, we look forward to the new year ahead and new beginnings as our journey continues.
