Here’s a little appreciation post to my dear friend, Darlene aka Darlene del Carmen aka Long 😂.
Who would have thought that a simple DM would gain me a family & friend for life. She’s an amazing lady who has been by my side since opening the restaurant. Her family is probably the kindest people you’ll ever meet and I’m so lucky to have them in my corner. And when we’re together we laugh non stop!!!!!

You guys have seen her work many times especially when you visit ATOTP for brunch. She creates the most beautiful plates which makes our food stand out a little more.

If you guys ever want a piece of ATOTP in a plate form, please give her a shout. Hell, give her a follow so you can see her amazing plates that makes rounds all over the US!

Happy Tuesday gang. I have quite a bit of new followers thanks to Julian Mu feature so I thought I’d reintroduce myself.

My name is Kathy Vega Hardy and I’m the owner, chef, dishwasher, marketing and everything in between of A Taste of the Philippines. I have 2 wonderful daughters and married to a very hands on (and handsome guy😉) named Andrew. We have a German Shepherd puppy named Axel.

Some facts about me:

- I started ATOTP in Denver over 14 years ago and made my move to Chicago in 2018.

-I love creating recipes that are authentic Filipino flavors and also some fun menu that’s inspired by other cuisines but tying my culture back to the dish.

-I’m a huge Packers fan so F*ck the Bears, don’t come for me lol.

-I’m now 6 months “cancer free”, I battled breast cancer earlier this year.

-I’m a snowboarder and I love photography especially black and white photos.

-I’m old and eat dinner at 4pm and be in bed by 7:30pm lol. I’m pretty “boring” and I like it that way.

-I LOVE meeting people at the restaurant and chatting with you guys when you come through.

-I’m a former accountant before I was fired from my corporate job so I started ATOTP :)

-I don’t understand the hype with pumpkin spice stuff during fall. Yuck 😂

I hope to meet you guys at the restaurant or around Chicago when I’m out and about or for a pop up. If you see me out, please say hi.

We’re open today 9-2pm at 5914 W Lawrence Ave location. So sorry for the inconvenience of having to close early. Please be patient today as we had a call in and I’m currently out of town for a short family vacation. We will resume regular business hours next week and a longer menu.

For those traveling via public transport, take the Blue Line train and get off at the Chicago station. From there, head east on Milwaukee Avenue towards N May Street, then turn left onto N May Street. Walk for two blocks until you reach N Fulton Street and turn right. Continue on this road for three blocks until you reach N Clinton Street.

If driving, take I-90/94 and exit at Grand Avenue. Turn east onto W Grand Avenue and continue straight until you reach N Clinton Street. Parking options include street parking or nearby parking garages.
