🌠In Loving Memory of Bob Polk đźŚ
November 20, 1947 – July 24, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Bob Polk, the longtime former owner of the Skyway Doghouse.
For more than 30 years, the Skyway Doghouse was Bob’s pride and joy. He poured his heart into the business, spending long days there and becoming a familiar face to generations of customers. To Bob, it was never simply a hot dog stand—it was a community, a gathering place, and a second home.
Bob took tremendous pride in serving Chicago’s East Side. He built lasting friendships with his customers, cared deeply for his employees, and was incredibly honored to be inducted into the Vienna Beef Hall of Fame.
A few years ago, Bob made the difficult decision to sell the business as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) began taking away his ability to run it. Walking away from something he had devoted so much of his life to was heartbreaking. Because of his declining health, he never truly had the opportunity to say a proper goodbye to the customers and friends who meant so much to him.
Although Bob was no longer involved with the business after it was sold, he never forgot the people who supported him throughout the years. Your loyalty, friendship, conversations, laughter, and countless memories meant more to him than you may ever know.
Bob passed away peacefully at home on July 24, surrounded by his family and with the dog by his side. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Sandy, his 3 children, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, extended family, and a community filled with people whose lives he touched.
On Bob’s behalf, and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who walked through the doors of the Skyway Doghouse during his years there. Thank you for supporting his dream and helping make the business such an important part of his life.
This is the farewell Bob never had the chance to give. ❤️
