SBA Administrator Isabel Guzman and Congresswoman Marie Newman at The Hatchery. Supporting small businesses is top priority and I was able to share my story and represent the minority small business owners in Chicago.

Throughout the month March, DCEO celebrates Women’s HERstory Month today they share my story. I have been inspired by amazing women and I am honored by this highlight.

With a mind for business and a passion for Latin cuisine, Eliuth Guzman combined her career in corporate sales with her customer service and event planning skills, opening Latin Plate Catering & Events in Chicago. Starting with cotillions, birthdays, and weddings, word soon spread and Eliuth was catering 1,000 corporate lunches a week with her staff. When COVID-19 cancelled most catering events, Eliuth sought a Business Interruption Grant (BIG) to keep her 12-year-old business going. “With the grant, I was able to keep our kitchen open. In the catering business, if you don’t have a kitchen, you don’t have a business,” said Eliuth. This success has given Eliuth and her husband the confidence to launch a new business, World Nutrition Café and Protein Smoothie Bar in Wicker Park this past October. Latin Plate is particularly grateful to continue their weekly delivery of food to health care workers at nearby RUSH University Medical Center. 2020 has been like no other year for the catering industry. To see Catering orders start to be canceled one after another until all bookings where gone was a very stressful time. But as entrepreneurs we had to pivot fast to continue doing what we love cooking for our clients. This year we implemented the pre-package meals, we continue to serve our fresh cook meals to Healthcare workers at Rush Hospital and we open our first brick and mortar Healthy Cafe World Nutrition in Wicker Park offering healthy food options to the community follow us IG:
