Kristen Pierce Sherrod was a pillar to the Chicago community taking over Harold’s from her father, Harold Pierce, and has expanded the Harold’s franchise nationwide.

The Chicago community is mourning the loss of Kristen D. Pierce-Sherrod, CEO of the legendary Harold’s Chicken Shack. Tributes have poured in honoring her leadership and dedication to preserving one of the most iconic Black-owned restaurant brands in America.

Pierce-Sherrod carried on the legacy of her father, Harold Pierce, who founded Harold’s Chicken Shack in 1950. Under her guidance, the brand remained a cultural staple known for its famous fried chicken, mild sauce, and deep roots in Chicago’s South Side.

Beyond business, she was respected as a community figure who upheld tradition while guiding the company forward. Her impact on Black entrepreneurship, food culture, and Chicago history will not be forgotten.

Condolences continue to be shared with her family, friends, and the Harold’s Chicken Shack community as her legacy lives on.🛑
