Hi everyone, we just wanted to let everyone know that we have updated our website.

What has changed and what has stayed the same :

1. Prices per pound has not changed as of now.

2. Shipping prices have been adjusted to conform to Fedex's 2 day flat rate prices as of last weeks price increase.

3. To conform to fedex's flat rate boxes we had to make some adjustments on the case packs. We have adjusted prices accordingly.

Finally for the big change. All Blends will require a 3 pound pack minimum purchase.

What that means is that is the absolute minimum anyone can order. We will have other Pack sizes in the coming days that will reflect and lower shipping rate based on fedex's flat rate box sizes and prices.

An example is the 20 lb and 23 lb case. Both are using fedex's extra large box and it drops the shipping cost dramatically compared to ordering a single 3 pound pack, etc etc.

After we get the other pack sizes set up on our site we will also possibly add mixed case packs in a new section.

This is an email from our Raw Coffee Broker. Other brokers have sent out similar emails. When coffee does increase in price (and it will because we cannot absorb these costs) you can blame the person who instituted the tariffs in the first place.

Dear Valued Customer,

As you know, the United States is now charging a tariff on green coffee imports from outside the United States. As of today, the tariff for green coffee is 10% for every producing country except for Puerto Rico, Mexico and Hawaii. ALL other coffee producing nations will be tariffed at 10% on arrival into the U.S.A.

Please review your current reserves to see where a possible tariff impact could go into effect. If a reserved coffee is "INSTORE" in any of our three domestic distribution locations (NJ, JAX, WI) OR has departed its country of origin before April 5th, it is tariff exempt. If the coffee is scheduled to ship any time after April 5th, the impact of the tariff will be retroactively applied to your coffee. As we move forward and begin to pay the tariffs on arrival into the U.S., we will update you regularly with whatever changes are applicable to our industry.

For now, please take this chance to review your forward position. After review, please respond to your trader with any questions, or a signed version of the attached report.

Just in case people are wondering why coffee prices keep skyrocketing.

Another thing to note that the article doesn't mention, these are market prices which roasters don't get. Roasters have to go threw brokers who also put a certain amount on it. Add in 20% loss when roasting and then our expenses to bag, etc, and yea ..... things get expensive very fast.

I hope this helps everyone understand that the increases that continue to happen are not being caused by the roasters. We are not trying to make more money, were simply trying to deal with the skyrocketing costs as best as we can.

With that said, regardless what our current price is, we here at La Capannina Coffee continue to try and be reasonably priced. Even by current standards we are cheaper than most coffee's on the market.

Here is the silver lining. At 10 dollars per pound, a cup of espresso is still only 16 cents per cup (10 dollars divided by 64 cups). That puts it on par with a bottle of water.

At 20 per pound, that comes out to 32 cents per cup, which is still cheaper than a can of soda.

Coffee futures in New York rose more than 6% on Monday in the ICE exchange to a fresh all-time high above $4.30 per pound, with some market participants citing panic in the market amid limited coffee availability.

One minor change that has been done to the website.

The 6 pound minimum has been hard coded into the cart now. If you try to order less than 6 pounds the checkout button will not show up and will be replaced with a "under 6 pound minimum." message.

We have this 6 pound minimum specifically because the cost of shipping is so insane that to ship out 1 pound it would literally cost between 8 and 10 dollars just for the shipping.

Thats more than the coffee itself. At 6 pounds it tapers down to somewhere between 3 and 3.50 per pound depending on what fedex's api server spits out.

Also to comment on the continued price increases. In the last year Raw coffee is up 175% combined between the arabica and robusta markets. (C Market is up 68% since last june while Robusta is up 108%)

To continue what were doing and be able to supply people with our coffee and services we have no choice in regards to the increases. No company can swallow 175% increase in cost.

We thank you for your continued support and hope you understand the increases are necessary so that we can continue doing what we love.

We are Happy to announce that for the month of April we will be selling a Limited Edition Easter Blend.

Our Easter Blend Consists of the last of our Colombian Honey Process, Brazilian Peaberry Legender, and small amount of Parchment Robusta for enchanced Crema, Body, and Sweetness.

We have about 50 lbs of this blend and once it is gone, it is gone.

We will be selling this at our Roastery for 12 dollars per 12 ounce bag and in our K style cups as a 12 cup box for 8.

The cups are 2.0 compatible and also fully recyclable, just pop open the top and rinse. No need to dissassemble. The lid, filter, and cup are all made of a Common Recyclable plastic.

These k style cups will be filled up to 12 grams per cup (Compared to 8 or 9 grams in your average Store Bought Kcup). This will make for a stronger / more emboldened cup of coffee.

We ask that if you do want to order the K style cups that you please give us a 1 hour notice so that we can make them for you.

Yes, you read that right, we will be making the cups in house and fresh to order!

02/05/2023

We wanted to give an update on our K-cup launch.

We pushed it back a few more weeks as my brother and I both caught the rsv bug and were still recovering from the after effects of it.

We have also decided to not produce the standard white plastic K-cups for the time being.

We will be producing a black compostable and also a 100% recyclable cup.

The 100% recyclable cup will be able to hold 50% more coffee than your standard K-cup while also being able to use direct grind to cup. (Standard k cups require up to 48 hours resting period between grinding and filling of cups).

Most importantly, once you have used the recyclable cup you can pop it open, rinse the grinds out and throw the entire cup into the recycling bin as the entire cup, filter, and top are made from pp 5 plastic which is fully recyclable.

The black compostable cups can be composted or simply thrown away. We have seen them decompose between a year and 2 years under normal circumstances, composting will be much quicker. We feel that is an acceptable compromise vs 150 years for the standard K-cups.

We should be getting our 100% recyclable cups in next week so we can commence testing and figure out pricing.

We do know that initially we will be doing a 12 cup box.

We will post a video once we have got them in and done our testing.

Being that we will be able to do this in house at our roastery, it also means we can do Small batches, Specialty micro lots, Limited Edition runs, and possibly even Tea!
