Happy Mother's Day to all Mothers of every kind from Cunneen's Bar!!!

A great way to celebrate tonight might be by coming to The Music Box Theater at 7pm to see the Chicago premiere of HEKLA!! It's been getting FANTASTIC reviews - here's one from Richard Roeper:

https://youtu.be/tUmY3OlH4WE?t=170&si=Y1sauAwdt1jK6g6R

Check out Michael's instagram for links to all of the interviews he and Elizabeth have been doing and to find the great reviews!

Our favorite quote so far comes from Ray Ebarb:

"HEKLA is Smith’s most kinetic and chaotic film as his most Chicago movie to date—it’s CLEO 5 FROM TO 7 (1962) if Cleo had a Malört shot at the end."

In case you're not familiar with that pinnacle Agnes Varda work from the French New Wave film movement of the Early 1960s which revolutionized cinema and changed the film industry forever for the better- comparing HEKLA to CLEO FROM 5 TO 7 is a beyond AMAZING compliment for both Michael Smith and Elizabeth Stam!!! Well done, Guys!!

We at Cunneen's are SO very excited to see the film tonight AND to end it with some shots of Malort!!

COME JOIN US FOR THE "After-AFTER PARTY' WE WILL BE OPEN TO CELEBRATE TONIGHT UNTIL 2 AM FOR WHOEVER WANTS TO JOIN! CHEERS & HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

New releases this week may feature a few good choices to watch with mom. Richard Roeper joins us to let us know what’s new to watch this weekend.

What people say

Cunneen's Bar is a must-visit for anyone looking for a friendly neighborhood pub in Chicago. This cash-only establishment has been a staple of the Edgewater and Rogers Park communities for years, and it's easy to see why. The interior is cozy and inviting, with plenty of seating options to choose from.

One of the best things about Cunneen's Bar is their commitment to local talent. They frequently host live music events featuring talented musicians like John Nolan of The Parting Glass. And on St. Paddy's Day, they go all out with Irish tunes that are sure to get you in the spirit.

It's no surprise that Cunneen's Bar was recently named one of Chicago's essential dive bars by Eater Chicago. This place has character and charm that you won't find anywhere else. And while we can't forget the loss of Steve Cunneen, his spirit lives on through the bar he created.

So if you're looking for a laid-back spot to grab a drink with friends or catch some live music, head over to Cunneen's Bar on W Devon Avenue. Just remember to bring cash and mention the code word "Sparky" during their special deals!
