As some of you may know, Somethin’ Sweet was founded by my parents nearly 15 years ago. Now in 2026, they have created something truly special where they are able to provide gainful employment not only to their kids (me 🤭) but also to their nieces, nephews, and even the neighborhood! So join us as we speak on what succession looks like for us and how we are building next generation leadership.

We’ll be closed Monday so that we can celebrate our mothers for a belated Mother’s Day! As a small business, it’s usually unwise to close on a major holiday. So while we were happy to be open today to serve all of you, we’ll take a short break to celebrate our own. Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

Mochi donuts on deck! Unlike our other donuts, mochi is made with rice flour. This gives it a nice chewy texture that pairs well with the subtle sweetness of our frosting. Available flavors include: coffee, lemon, ube, matcha, and strawberry. My personal fav is the lemon 🍋 🤤

Do you have an exceptionally smart kiddo? If so, stop in with their Straight-A report card for a free donut! School and community are two things that we value very much. And so, we want to give an extra sweet incentive to any stellar student!
We actually tried out this promo with Bateman Elementary earlier this school year. After the positive feedback we received from those report card pick ups, we now want to open this up to others! 📚

Yesterday was an exciting one! We were happy to host Girl Scout troops at our donut shop where we got to inspire some young entrepreneurs!
At the behest of their troop leader, we talked about how it’s like to run a business, the importance of communities, and the role of women in leadership positions at our donut shop! 🍩
From kneading, to proofing, to cooking, we showed them a step-by-step guide on how our donuts are made. Once cooked it was onto the fun part: decorating! 🎉
It always surprises us when people are interested in hearing about our business journey. So thank you Veronica for this opportunity to collaborate with your Girl Scouts!🏕️

Beginning this Friday and through the weekend, we will give out red envelopes AKA Hong Bao’s with every purchase! 🧧 Also, we’ve created a special red bean bismark donut for the holiday!
So what are red envelopes? Well in Chinese culture, it is customary for elders to give children red envelopes filled with money to celebrate the holiday. Now before you get ahead of yourselves, we won’t be giving away actual money (because that would be crazy 😂).
We will, however, give a red envelope with a special promo or coupon enclosed inside with every purchase and while supplies last. Depending on what you get, you can receive free donuts, coffee, ice cream, and more!
This practice of giving red envelopes is rooted in respect, affection, and well-wishing. By giving a red envelope, we wish you prosperity and good fortune in the coming new year.
Thanks for reading and we’re excited to share our culture with you this weekend!

Today is the nationwide general strike! While as a small business we cannot afford to completely close for the day, we respect and support everyone who is protesting in their own way. We’ll be donating a portion of today’s sales to the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant & Refugee Rights!
Considering our background, it’s a no brainer on where we stand. So during this day, we urge everyone to not spend any money. But if you must, shop at a local business and use cash if at all possible!
