Some recipes don't need updating.
The Italiano Sub has been built the same way since 1981: same bread, same layers, same reason it became the sandwich that put us on the map. No shortcuts, no seasonal twist, no "new and improved." Just the recipe Anthony got right the first time.
45 years later, we're still not touching it. Some things earn the right to stay exactly the same.

In 1981, Anthony Spatara put the Diavolo Sub on the menu. 🥖 Nothing fancy, just the good stuff, done right.
45 years later, the sourcing has changed here and there, but the way we build it hasn't. Same ratios. Same bread. We've had people ask us to change it over the decades. We never have. 🙅
Some things don't need reinventing. They just need someone who still cares enough to make them right, every single day, for 45 years. ❤️
That's the whole story, really. Not reinvention. Just consistency, done with love, for four and a half decades. 🇮🇹

On October 12, 1981, a small Italian grocery store took a chance on a new corner of Chicago. Four and a half decades later, we're still family run, still serving the same recipes that started it all.
All week, Monday through Friday, it's 45% off a different item each day:

In 1981, on Columbus Day, a little Italian grocery store from the Northwest Side took a chance and moved into a brand new high-rise at 30 East Huron. People called it a pioneering venture. We called it home.
Over four decades later, that corner became our neighborhood, and our neighborhood became Chicago's. Founder Anthony Spatara's vision is still what guides every sandwich we build and every espresso we pull today.
45 years in, we're just getting started. This week, we're looking back at where it all began. Swipe through for a piece of our story.

For those taking public transit to E Huron Street Feinburg in Chicago, both the Red and Brown Line trains stop at the Chicago and State station, which is about a 10-minute walk from the area. For drivers, parking garages can be found on E Huron Street or nearby side streets. To make your way to E Huron Street from Lake Shore Drive, exit onto Michigan Avenue and turn west onto Superior Street. Follow Superior until you reach St. Clair Street and then make a right, heading north.
