Every year, just before Thanksgiving, the hard-working kitchen staff would set up the Christmas decorations. Owner Nanci Makris wanted customers to walk into a winter wonderland when they came in for Thanksgiving dinner and started the holiday season.

The decorations were always abundant and enchanting -turning the entire restaurant in to a cozy and welcoming place to gather with friends and family. Over the years, so many generations came to celebrate relationships and the passing of the holiday seasons.

Here is a photo of the tree over the bar decorated for Christmas in 2010.

Wondering if anyone knows what this is? A follower of this page sent it in saying that it was his father's and his parents had dined there often in the 60's.

He was just wondering what it is? Thanks!

Here's a photo from New Years Eve 2011- the last night that The Flame was open. This was a photo that didn't make it in to the book "The Last New Year" by Jeffery C. Johnson.

The Flame family lost 2 special people recently- 2 people that were integral to how The Flame worked for decades. Charlie Galanti was a great bartender during his time at The Flame but he also worked in any other spot that was needed. A true team player, Charlie was, honestly, one of the nicest and most charming guys you could meet. He was funny as could be and he wouldn't mind taking a few good jabs at you- knowing you could take it.

Waitress Dee Sabaj was a consummate professional when doing her job but she was also one of the warmest and most engaging people that you would ever meet. She was a person that thrived on adventure and often felt restless in the city. Dee was a woman that loved the outdoors. She had a great sense of humor and a sharp wit.

The Flame family mourns the loss of both of these great people who gave many years to help to create happiness and joy for others.

May they both rest peacefully. They are missed by so many.

One of the Chefs at The Flame (Honorio) was a great and serious fan of opera and would often have it on in the kitchen as he worked. Here is a photo of the list of upcoming operas for 2012 and, so as to remember, he jotted them down on a to-go container.
