Every culture has a Sunday table.
Today just happens to come with a game on.

Monday energy.
Same pot. New purpose.
What started as Chi-Town Jollof at a friend’s table this weekend is how many of our corporate partners experience us during the week.
Boxed lunches. Team meals. Office drops.
Built for conversation. Built for care.

She made every day a New Year.
She compounded a once-a-year moment into a daily practice.
“Happy New Year,” Mama Nnukwu would say.
Not because it was January,
but because each day was a chance to begin again.
The journey there and back felt like an endurance sport.
If she had nothing else earmarked for the day,
the market could take three hours.
Not because it was far,
but because it was full.
Full of stops.
Full of conversations.
Full of people who mattered.
This was before dried fish.
Before the butcher.
Before the spice and vegetable vendors we returned to week after week.
Dinner was never incidental.
It was a daily ritual.
Palm oil made from scratch.
Only then could dinner begin.
By the time we ate, our bellies were full,
but so was the day.
That’s where we learned that nourishment doesn’t begin at the table.
It begins on the road to it.
As we step into 2026,
we’re building with more intention, stronger systems,
and care for the journey as much as the destination.
Happy New Year. Always.
Rice and stew, very plenty.

🇺🇸✨ On this Labor Day, we honor the hard work of our heroes past, the labor that built and sustained communities. In Igbo tradition, Iri Ji marks the shift from old yam to new, a season of labor rewarded, renewal embraced, and gratitude shared. ✨🍠
From our new home base at The Hatchery Chicago, Dozzy’s Grill carries both of these rich traditions forward, honoring labor, welcoming harvest, and preparing to share exciting new flavors and updates with you soon.
Together, we celebrate resilience, culture, and the power of coming together around food.

The Igbo New Yam Festival (Iri Ji) is a celebration of renewal, gratitude, and the beginning of a new harvest. In our culture, yams symbolize wealth, resilience, and life itself.
Today, Chef Dozzy returns to the Southwest Regional Senior Center to showcase the story of yams and how a single root can carry centuries of tradition and foster connection from the City of Big Shoulders to the world.
Have you tasted Yam, the King of crops? Our elders today will see a cooking demonstration and taste Yam Pottage, a dish Chef Dozzy often made from scratch with Mama Nnukwu.
